Cedar Waxwings

This image is the beginning of a series demonstrating the eating habits of the Cedar Waxwing

This bird has plucked the fruit from a Russian Olive tree and holds it firmly before he tosses the fruit upward

Although we missed the action, the bird succeeded in tossing the fruit upward and catching it

in freefall, much like we might do with popcorn

The bird is poised to repeat the process again

Again, the bird plucks the fruit of a non-native tree that is currently intentionally being eradicated along the Murray/Jordan Parkway.

In my opinion the removal of these trees will eradicate much needed food for a variety of birds

Although native trees and plants are to be planted in place of the Olive trees, I suspect we will see a major change in the bird population, both varieties and numbers each Autumn

The Cedar Waxwings can be seen each autumn gorging on these fruits
